Mr. Joseph Yeo is a lecturer at the National Institute of Education. He has a B.Sc. (First Class Honours), a PGDE (Distinction) and a M.Ed. degree (there is no classification for M.Ed., or else it will also be a distinction). He has many years of teaching experience, both in a neighbourhood school and an independent school. His areas of interest are in helping students learn mathematics in a fun and interesting manner through hands-on activities, mathematical investigations, real-life applications, computer-based lessons and games; and in alternative assessment such as open-ended problems, performance tasks, journal writing, problem posing, and composing of poems, songs or raps. Mr Yeo has also conducted many seminars and workshops at the Teachers Network, Maths HODs’ Meetings, Mathematics Teachers Conference, CRPP Conference, ERAS Conference, etc., and these have received very positive feedback from participating teachers. He is also the author of the series of IT workbooks Maths Online, and is a new co-author for the series of textbooks and workbooks New Syllabus Mathematics published by Shing Lee. The workbooks include alternative assessment, computer-based learning, exploratory worksheets, real-life applications and non-routine problems.
