Ms Ivy Chow who is from the National Institute of Education has many years of teaching experience, both in a neighbourhood school and an independent school. Her areas of interest are in helping students learn mathematics in a fun and interesting manner through hands-on activities, real-life applications and games; and in alternative assessment such as open-ended problems, performance tasks, journal writing, problem posing, and composing of poems, songs or raps. Ms Chow has conducted numerous research studies in alternative assessment and her thesis for her Master of Education is on open-ended problems. She has also conducted many seminars and workshops at Maths HODs’ Meetings, CRPP Conference, etc., and these have received very positive feedback from participating teachers. Ms Chow is also a new co-author for the series of textbooks and workbooks New Syllabus Mathematics published by Shing Lee. The workbooks include alternative assessment, computer-based learning, exploratory worksheets, real-life applications and non-routine problems.
